Philanthropy
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has implemented internationally mandated programs that align with its core principles and programs, focusing on community service, academic excellence, civic engagement, and leadership development. These programs include Achievement Week, Scholarship, Social Action, Talent Hunt, and the Charles R. Drew Blood Drive.
Key Mandated Programs include:
Achievement Week:
Originally established in 1920 to recognize individuals who made significant contributions to community life.
College Endowment:
Each year the Fraternity gives at least $50,000 to historically black colleges and universities in furtherance of Omega’s commitment to provide philanthropic support.
Fatherhood & Mentoring:
Every level of the Fraternity, particularly at the local chapter level, is asked to play an active role and support of the partnership and by actively engaging in the promotion and focusing in on the Fraternity’s success in the mentorship of the youth and supporting fathers within the community.
Health Initiatives:
Chapter facilitates, participate and coordinate that promote good health practices. Some of the programs are the Dr. Charles R. Drew Blood Drive and partnership with the American Diabetes Association, especially in the areas of Mental Health.
Dr. Charles R. Drew Memorial Blood Drive:
Held annually, usually in June, to promote community health.
Memorial Service:
March 12th of each year chapters conduct an appropriate service to recall the memory of those members who have entered Omega Chapter.
NAACP Membership:
Each district and chapter in the Fraternity is required to maintain a Life Membership in the NAACP. All members of the Fraternity are encouraged to join the NAACP.
Reclamation and Retention:
A concerted effort at the International, District, State, and local levels to retain active brothers to return inactive brothers to full participatory status. Holistically, this Program is aimed and is designed to bring inactive brothers back into active service.
Scholarship:
Promotes academic excellence among undergraduate members. Graduate chapters provide financial support assistance to student members and non-members. Additionally, providing financial assistance, including a $50,000+ annual donation to the UNCF.
Social Action:
Chapters actively participate and engage in activities that will uplift their communities. Some of the activities include Assault on Illiteracy, Habitat for Humanity, voters’ registration (VREM), mentoring, and participating in fundraisers for charitable organizations.
STEM Initiatives:
The Fraternity STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) promotes and is designed to get students across the world excited about STEM in their local areas. But more importantly promoting the importance and significance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education for students.
Talent Hunt Program:
Provides exposure, encouragement and financial assistance to talented young people participating in the performing arts. Winners are awarded recognition and may be given college scholarships.
Voters Registration, Education & Mobilization:
VREM Promote all local Chapters in the Fraternity to facilitate and participates in activities that uplift their communities through the power of the vote.
